Llanbedrog on the Llyn Peninsula

Llanbedrog meaning 'Pedrog’s church' and pronounced 'Lhan-bed-rog' is Pwllheli's nearest neighbour, just 4 miles along the A499. This main road divides the hilltop village into two, the lower half marked by a pub/restaurant serving food all day, with an outside eating area (heated) and a children’s play area (very popular with families). Follow the narrow road behind the pub down to a lovely secluded beach, probably the most sheltered beach in North Wales. Also in this idyllic area is St Pedrog’s Church and The Oriel Plas Glyn y Weddw, a Grade II Listed Victorian gothic mansion housing an art gallery and exhibitions. Set in beautifully-landscaped gardens with fantastic views of the sea, there is also a conservatory tea-room offering home-made sandwiches, snacks and cakes which really must not be missed!
Back on the beach, with its row of brightly coloured beach huts and child-friendly stream, many hours of quiet relaxation lie ahead. The Galley is a bistro/cafe with outside tables (and heaters!) in an unbeatable location right on the beach, and on a warm evening is somewhat reminiscent of the Mediterranean, with the sound of the sea thrown in! For the more energetic, off the beach there is a path up steep steps to the top of Mynydd Tir y Cwmwd. Here stands the Iron Man, (made from tin) a modern sculpture commanding fabulous views of Cardigan Bay, Snowdonia which are more than well worth the climb.
The other side of the main road, Llanbedrog remains a traditional village setting with its post office, pubs, few shops and a large family camp site.
